1. I turned on the camera, then turned the mode dial to S for shutter speed.
2. When the shutter speed increases, there is less and less motion blur and the image becomes sharper. It begins to look more like an instantaneous snapshot of time. 3. Shutter speed can be used for both technical and aesthetic reasons. It could be used aesthetically if the photographer desires a dramatic motion blur with low shutter speed to capture movement in an image. A fast shutter speed can be used if a sharp image of a moving object is desired, like to capture a jet or an athlete. 4. see below shutter speed

A contingent of soldiers travel through the wasteland. They were told to be on the lookout for scattered groups of enemy soldiers who might be lurking in the barren land. They are on their way to their next camp, where the rest of the army is waiting. Their tank was just recently repaired after being salvaged from the battle remains and is trudging along with the soldiers. In the distance, a pair of soldiers spots their group and decides to attack. One of the enemy soldiers is armed with an RPG and intends to attack the tank. His partner scouts the location to make sure their area is clear. As the tank rolls into view, the heavy trooper lines up his shot. A sniper from the traveling group's army and his partner spot the heavy trooper as they prepare to attack. He tells his partner to quickly notify their fellow soldiers as quickly as possible so they can get to cover. Meanwhile, the soldier with the rifle prepares to line up his shot to eliminate the enemy and save the traveling group in case they can't get to cover in time. Having received the message, the endangered soldiers attempt to retreat to nearby cover to prevent the tank from being exposed. The main officer facilitates as the tank and the other soldiers follow suit and hurry into the brush to avoid being in the line of site of the enemy troops. It is at that very moment that disaster strikes. The sniper is able to get his shot off on the enemy heavy trooper, but he is a split-second too late. Just before the tank was able to retreat to cover, the enemy forces fire their shot and successfully land their projectile on the tank. The tank has exploded and the traveling soldiers suffer moderately from the explosion. The sniper and his partner look on in horror as they witness the wreckage. Fortunately, the traveling soldiers are able to pick themselves up, as shaken up as they are. The soldiers who were able to recover get up and survey the area, realizing what had occurred. They see a fallen soldier who is barely holding onto life. The officer of the small contingent holds onto the hand of the fallen trooper, offering words of encouragement as they look into each others' eyes; however, he is too badly injured, and they all look on as he slips into the void.
Working with the aperture for these photos helped highlight the differences made when changing aperture size. As the aperture size got larger, the depth of view got smaller; so, from left to right, as aperture decreased, the depth of view increased to include all the boxes.

Camera obscura was the first significant step in utilizing light to generate an image on a selected surface. Its design is simple: a dark enclosed room with a pinhole in the center of one wall to allow light to enter. The light projects an image of what is outside the pinhole onto a wall, a backwards and vertically flipped image. This technique was then ported to a smaller scale by the use of a constructed box, as seen below. A mirror and alternate viewing position were utilized in order to compensate for the transformation of the image. Lenses were also added in order to improve quality of the projected image. Modern camera obscuras are still made in rooms that look out to a view; they are commonly made with natural landscapes and cityscapes, as seen above, and with ocean views as well.
