BALANCE - This photo was taken below the 200 wing at the water fountains. Balance is present in this photo in the way the water fountains share the frame equally. Their shapes are identical and symmetric. The balance makes the shot successful because it encompasses several layers of balance and symmetry; each fountain has two spouts and are symmetric in that sense, while there are two of them that share the frame.
PROPORTION - This photo was taken of a planter in the quad, with the help of the amazing Jake Ellis. Proportion is present here in the comparison between the sizes of Jake and the tree. This makes the shot successful because it encompasses the entirety of both the tree and Jake. Their positions make it easy to compare their size. RHYTHM - This photo of birds against a fence was taken in the quad. Rhythm is present in the shot in the pattern of the birds lined up as well as the pattern in the fence; the motion of the birds is captured as well. This makes the shot successful because the patterns make the shot aesthetically pleasing; the birds look very cool if I do say so myself. EMPHASIS - This shot was taken in the quad of a part of the roof by the fire lane. Emphasis is present in the shot in the way the number 300 is displayed. It stands out in the frame because of the way its color contrasts with the white around it. It makes the shot successful because the number is the only clear defined and meaningful shape in the shot; the rest is just flat textures and line. HARMONY - This photo was taken in the quad by the stage. Harmony is present throughout the frame, as is typical of harmony. The way the pattern in the trees lies against the sky makes the photo overall aesthetically pleasing. It makes the shot successful because it captures the beauty of the trees as light filters though the leaves and branches. VARIETY - This shot was taken in the quad. Variety is present in the way the trash can's presence contrasts with the blank space around it. The area is cleared for dozens of feet in every direction; the surface of the quad is barren aside from the one space the trash can occupies. The shot is successful because it demonstrates a contrast between empty space and an unexpected object. It captures a large area in the quad and shows its barrenness while still showing the object. UNITY - This photo was taken under the overhang in the quad. Unity is present in the appearance of both harmony and variety coming together in the way the tables are aligned as well as the various colors and patterns. The lined up tables that fill up the shot offer a sense of oneness despite the contrast between the colors. It makes the shot successful because all the different elements of the photo come together aesthetically to form a whole.

LINE - This photo is of the railing in the 200s wing outside Mrs. Moncure's room. Right when we left the room, I saw the straight railings and the sharp shadows and figured it was perfect for demonstrating line. The photograph was successful because it is a combination of dark and light lines with sharp edges throughout the frame. The complexity is pleasing to the eye.
COLOR - This photo was taken outside the bathroom by the weight room above the water fountain. The element of color is present throughout the frame, with the blue and yellow being the main colors that pull the eye. The shot is successful because the it shows the essence of the mural and its aesthetic beauty through its pattern and color. SHAPE - This photo was taken at the door to the weight room. It displays shape because of the circular lock surrounded by various rectangular. It makes the shot successful because it captures the complexity of an object that is passed every day without a second thought. FORM - This photo was taken in the fire lane. It displays form because the shadows and various shapes on the hydrant as well as the observable height, width, and depth. The shot is successful because it shows the various curves and form of the hydrant that is passed by every day by so many people. TEXTURE - This photo was taken on the wall and doorway outside the weight room. Texture is present in the picture because of the rough texture of the wall and the smooth texture of the doorway. The shot is successful because there is a clear contrast between the rough and smooth textures, which are also characterized by the different colors. SPACE - This shot was taken outside the weight room. It demonstrates space because the aperture makes the pillar appear far in front of the area behind it. This makes the shot successful because the pillar is pulling the viewer's attention; there are also many layers of space between the pillar, the wall, and the sky. VALUE - This shot was taken in the fire lane. Value is present in the shot because there are many different shades of the grayscale present in the rock's shadows. The shot is successful because its high resolution captures the many details in the rock and its shading.
1. The camera was set to shutter speed priority, with the shutter speed set at 1/1,000th of a second. The ISO was set at 1600. The aperture was set automatically, with all of them having a f/4 aperture.
2. The only struggle taking these photos was getting the timing right. For example, in the ones with Milo pouring the water in the tank, I had to time it so the water was still in midair and hadn't reached the tank. The way to solve this was to take more photos until I was satisfied. 3. The top three things I learned were using ISO to adjust how much light entered the camera so that it wasn't under-exposed, how to change shutter speed on a different kind of camera, and how to time shots with fast shutter speed. 4. I could use fast shutter speeds to photograph athletes in action without motion blur. In this photo, the red railing is a symbol of being cooperative, which offers guidance in life. Without allowing others to help you, it is easy to fall and it is harder to move forward. By allowing yourself to depend even slightly on those around you who are willing to help, your life becomes easier and progress can be achieved.
Allowing yourself to depend on others relates to self-respect because it requires letting go of your ego. In many cases, people are willing to hold onto their ego even if it means sacrificing health or safety. If someone lets go of their ego and becomes willing to accept help and be cooperative, they are respecting themselves by looking after their own safety and chances of success. In this way, this photo speaks out against arrogance and calls for more attention to be drawn towards having enough self-respect to make good decisions. 1. I took these photos by putting the camera on a tripod mounted on the desk. The lights were off and I put the camera on Manual mode and changed the shutter speed to 6 seconds. I had my partner use whatever light she wanted to draw the art she desired; she mainly used the MyLightPaint app as well as her phone's flashlight.
2. The main struggle with the light painting was that envisioning how the drawing would turn out in your head was often different from how it looked in the shot. Also, the images where we used glow sticks instead of a phone were often lower quality; they weren't bright enough. 3. The three most important things I learned were how to manually change the shutter speed, how to manually focus the camera, and how to use flash while the image was exposed to add a cool effect. 4. I could make my music logo using this method, which I plan on doing with Tovin's help sometime soon. It will be hard to draw and will probably take many attempts, as well as use a much longer shutter speed so I have time to draw the entire thing. |
